Yesterday was Dr. Seuss' birthday!
I realize that unless you work with children under the age of 10 you probably don't have this birthday on your calendar.
This year I discovered just how much I love Dr. Seuss. I decided to teach a unit on him in reading this week and was able to have my kids create a lot of things from stories that we read.
The first thing we started with this week was an estimation question:
It was interesting to see who was close to the correct number. A lot of guesses were in the 100's, the correct amount was 803!
We also used goldfish for a math activity.
The children had to sort their goldfish, tally them, and graph them.
They also created patterns with fish.
The question of the day was "Can we eat our fish when we finish?"
One student created this fish out of their fish, so creative!
At lunch we had green eggs and ham, of course!
The kids also enjoyed blue jello with swedish fish for "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish."
The kids thought lunch was so fun, we also wated Dr. Seuss movies while we ate.
It was a fun day in 2nd grade!
